ABOUT THE ARTISTS
TAY BAK CHIANG
Tay Bak Chiang's (1973 born in Malaysia, based in Singapore) delightfully poetic and visually intriguing compositions are inspired by his constant dialogue with nature and reflection of life through nature.

Trained in the traditional Chinese ink painting, Bak Chiang is constantly exploring and finding fresh perspectives to depict the ubiquitous Chinese painting themes, breaking away from the dependence on representational forms and combining innovative paint medium with brush technique. This approach has imbued the prolific artist with an artistic freedom to produce works that are distinctive and truly refreshing, making him one of the most dynamic contemporary ink artist to watch.

Bak Chiang graduated from the Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts in Singapore where he obtained his Diploma in Fine Art. Between 1997 and 1998, he also studied at the China Academy of Fine Arts in People's Republic of China.

Bak Chiang is the recipient of the prestigious Young Artist Award for Visual Arts from the National Arts Council Singapore in 2002. His works were awarded the First Prize at the UOB Painting of the Year Competition Singapore in 2000 & 2003, Distinction at the Dr Tan Tse Chor Art Award 1999 & 2002, First Prize at the Singapore Turf Club Art Competition 1999 and Shell Discovery Art Award Singapore in 1995.

RYOTA UNNO
From afar, Ryota Unno's (1977 born in Shizuoka, Japan) works resembles traditional Japanese scroll paintings, but upon closer inspection, they are really the artist's humorous depictions of contemporary society and modern life.

Painting with traditional Japanese medium such as iwaenogu (mineral pigments) and gold foil on Japanese paper, Ryota is influenced by genre paintings of the Edo period in Japan three centuries ago.

Ryota's works often feature richly detailed cartoon-like people engaged in a range of activities in various story settings. The artist likes to capture the little things that are easily forgotten in our fast-paced everyday life. Looking at his paintings will rediscover these captured moments and make one recall these little pleasures of life.

For Ryota, humor is the most important theme of his works as he feels that it exists within everyone in various degrees. Laughter gives energy and it is this quality about humor that the artist would like to express in his works.

Ryota graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Japanese Painting from the Tokyo National University in Fine Arts and Music. He has participated in solo and group exhibitions in Japan as well as USA< Brazil, Italy, Taiwan and Singapore.

MYUNG NAM AN
Myung Nam An's (1969 born in Seoul, Korea. Currently resides and works in London) works reflects and celebrates the everyday life and people, from which she derives her inspiration. Featuring vibrant colors and fascinating textures, Myung Nam An's ceramics sculptures - each one unique and possessing an otherworldly physical appearance - convey a sense of mystery and unfamiliarity that prompt a deeper emotional response from the viewers. The viewers are encouraged to form their own interpretations of the objects based on their personal feelings, thoughts and experiences. Myung Nam An's sculptures become windows to the artist's inner world while at the same time, offer the viewers a fresh introspective perspective to their own.

Myung Nam An's works have been shown in numerous gallery exhibitions and art fairs internationally, including New York, London, Hong Kong and Singapore.
